- Diapers
- Rubber bands
- Ribbons of different color
- Clear stretch jewelry cord
- Ribbon, stuffed toy or board book as a cake topper
- A cake plate or a sheet of cardboard
You can also include other items like teething rings, baby wash, wipes, bibs, baby lotion or any other stuff inside the diaper cake to add more meaning to it.
Below is the step to step guide to help you build your own diaper cake while sitting at home

Prepare the diapers
Always try to start with this step. Although most of the cakes are made up of disposable diapers you can also use cloth diapers and that depends upon the parent’s preference. It is suggested to consult the parents and ask them about their preferences before making the cake.
One by one start rolling the diapers tightly, always start from the front of the diaper and then roll it towards the back. Once you are done doing this, secure it with the help of a rubber band.

Build the base
For the base, cut one piece of clear stretch jewelry cord with the help of a scissor in order to fit it to the circumference of the base layer of the cake.
Once you are done with that then put items like lotion, baby wipes or stuffed toys in the middle of the cake plate or cardboard and then insert the diapers and create a circular shape with the help of those diapers.
Now wrap the piece of jewelry cord all around the diapers to keep this base layer intact.

Build the second layer
Now add the next layer of these rolled up diapers and then again wrap a piece of that jewelry cord. Always make sure that all the diapers that you are putting in it are close to one another.
If you notice gaps between the diapers or any other exposed rubber bands then make sure to secure it with a piece of ribbon.

After completion of the tiers decorate them with the help of teething rings, stuffed toys and all other small but useful baby items.
