Proposal flower advice from Lin
Hi, I’m Lin. After 8 years of helping Singaporean couples plan proposals, here’s what most flower pages won’t tell you: the bouquet matters less than the moment. A perfectly-timed 24-rose bouquet at the right venue beats a 108-rose bouquet that arrives late or wilts before the moment. My honest recommendations: book 5-7 days in advance for premium tiers, coordinate with your photographer and venue (we’ll do this for you), and choose a count that matches your relationship — 12 for newer commitments, 24 for mid-stage, 99 (久久 forever) or 108 (the Chinese proposal count) for “this is the one.” For full bespoke proposals (Capella, MBS, Gardens by the Bay), WhatsApp me directly — I personally oversee these. Most important: when she says yes, the flowers are part of the story you’ll tell forever.
How many roses for a Singapore proposal?
12 roses – “be mine”
Classic choice. Universal romantic symbolism. Recommended for couples who’ve been dating less than two years. $95-$160.
24 roses – “I think of you 24 hours a day”
A flower for each hour. Average romantic gesture. Suitable for 2-5 years of relationships. $145-$280.
★ 99 roses – 久久 (jiǔ jiǔ – forever)
Traditional SG-Chinese rose bouquet. 99 (九十九, jiǔ shí jiǔ) resembles 久久 (jiǔ jiǔ – forever). The combination of 99 roses with a proposal implies an intention to make things last forever. For a complete analysis of the cultural meaning, check out our 99 roses guide. Price starts at $280.
★ 108 roses – THE proposal bouquet
The specific connection between 108 and marriage proposals is cultural Chinese. As opposed to 99, which is used more generally as “forever”. Go for 108 when your gesture coincides with the proposal. The number is significant to Buddhism and Taoism (108 prayer beads, 108 names of deities). Second most popular Singaporean proposal number after 99. Costing $420 and more.
365 roses – “every day of the year”
A spectacular gesture number. Customized high-end service only, costing usually $1,500 and up. Ideal for dramatic public proposals and life events.
999 roses – perfection
“Forever” elevated. Unique, custom order, above $3,000. Booked 2+ weeks before the event date. Usually combined with professional photographers and venue design.
To avoid – numbers including 4
In China, 4 (四 sì) means 死 (sǐ – death). Numbers like 4, 14, 40, 44, 144 are considered unlucky and should be avoided in any romantic situation. Most experienced Singapore florists will not recommend these combinations for proposals.
Best Singapore proposal venues (and how flower delivery works)
Marina Bay Sands SkyPark
Iconic SG proposal venue — rooftop infinity pool views, observation deck and fine dining.
Capella Sentosa
Luxury resort on Sentosa — colonial heritage, peacocks roam the gardens, beachfront.
Gardens by the Bay (Supertree Grove)
Iconic 50-metre Supertrees. The Garden Rhapsody light show at 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM is a popular proposal moment.
Fullerton Bay Hotel rooftop / Lantern Bar
Premium rooftop venue with skyline views. The Lantern Bar pool deck is a popular proposal spot.
Private yacht charter (One°15 Marina)
Private yacht from Sentosa Cove — sunset cruise with skyline views.
Restaurant proposals
Most accommodate proposals with advance notice. Call the restaurant 5-7 days ahead, confirm proposal coordination.
Beach proposals (Sentosa, East Coast Park)
Tanjong Beach (Sentosa), Palawan Beach, Siloso Beach. East Coast Park is also popular but more crowded. Sunset 7:00-7:15 PM.
ArtScience Museum / Cloud Forest dome
Indoor air-conditioned venues for proposals during SG’s rain months.
Beyond the proposal — SG romantic flower occasions
★ 521 (我愿意 — ‘I do’) proposal day
21 May = 521 (五二一, wǔ èr yī) sounds like 我愿意 (wǒ yuàn yì — I am willing / I do). Increasingly the proposal day for Chinese couples. Many couples plan 520 → 521 as a connected weekend (declaration → commitment).
Valentine’s Day proposal
February 14 — universal romantic intensity. Popular date for proposal. See our Valentine’s Day flower page for V-Day-specific bouquets.
Anniversary-as-proposal moment
Many SG proposals happen ON the relationship anniversary — particularly the 2-year, 3-year, or 5-year mark. Anniversary flowers as proposal flowers carry double meaning. See our anniversary flowers page.
How proposal coordination works at That Flower Shop
Pre-proposal planning call (free)
WhatsApp Lin 5-7 days before the proposal. We discuss: venue, time, photographer, ring presentation, bouquet design, delivery logistics. Free planning consultation.
Bouquet design lock
Once design is confirmed, we lock the rose grade, count, wrap, and design. We source premium premium roses for proposal-grade bouquets — these are not the same as standard hand-bouquet roses.
Photographer coordination
If you’re working with a photographer, we coordinate timing so the bouquet is in your hand for the right moment in the photo sequence. For hidden-photographer proposals (the most common SG style), we deliver before the photographer’s pre-set position.
Venue coordination
For restaurant proposals, we contact the restaurant. For hotel proposals, we coordinate with concierge. For venue proposals (Gardens by the Bay, MBS SkyPark), we plan delivery to the right entrance.
Delivery operations
Standard same-day before 5 PM. Express delivery 10 AM-7 PM (fr $25). For full bespoke proposals: 5-7 days advance booking recommended.
