In the case of any of the usual graduation events in Singapore – be it in NUS at the Cultural Centre, NTU at the Nanyang Auditorium, SMU at Convention Hall, or a JC/poly hall in July/November – sunflowers will be among the most frequently photographed bouquets. The yellow sunflowers look good against an academic gown, last for three hours through the whole event, do not require any refrigeration backstage, and set the right mood – festive but not romantic. This section deals with all things concerning sunflowers for graduation in Singapore – including the optimal time to place the order, appropriate sizes for carrying by MRT, appropriate accessories, and price range. Should you have already decided that sunflowers is your choice, please see our collection of graduation flowers.
Why sunflowers are the most-ordered Singapore graduation bouquet
Visual impact in graduation photos
Graduation photos will last forever. They look stunning on camera against the colour of academic robes (which in most Singapore universities are black, blue, or burgundy). In such cases, sunflowers make for great photographs as their bright colour pops against the darker tones of the gown while still looking good in both smartphone shots and professional pictures. Other flowers tend to blend into the background of these colours.
Symbolism — loyalty, admiration, brightness
Sunflowers represent loyalty (in following the path of the sun) as well as admiration and brightness. These three meanings are perfectly applicable when you wish to gift your graduate some flowers. Since sunflowers have universal meanings, their symbolism is culturally-neutral and therefore appropriate at Singaporean graduations where many different cultures meet.
Hardiness during the ceremony
Singaporean graduation ceremonies usually last between two and three hours. Throughout this time, the sunflowers retain their freshness despite having no water. This is because of their thick stem and durable petals. In comparison, most hand bouquet like tulip, lilies and roses begin to wilt rather quickly without water.
Friendly without being romantic
When Singapore universities and schools hold graduations
Knowing your university’s exact dates is the most critical operational fact. Sunflowers sell out fast in graduation weeks — order 5-7 days ahead.

What NOT to order for graduations
When and where to deliver
Pickup at the shop (recommended)
For graduation day, pickup at our Telok Blangah shop (82 Telok Blangah Dr #01-42) is usually cleanest. Pick up the morning of the ceremony, take a taxi/Grab to the venue. Avoids any delivery-window risk on the most important day.
Same-day delivery to the venue
Order before 5 PM the day before for next-morning delivery to the venue (NUS, NTU, SMU, etc.). Our express flower delivery offers 90-minute windows for last-minute additions. For graduations starting early (8 AM), book delivery to the venue concierge by 7 AM.
Delivery to the graduate’s home
For surprise gestures (parents pre-arranging a delivery to be ready when the graduate gets home from ceremony) — book for 6-8 PM delivery on graduation day. Standard delivery fee.
After-ceremony care for the bouquet
Graduates often go for celebratory dinner immediately after — and the bouquet sits at the table. Tell the graduate: trim the stems before placing in water (do this 6-8 hours later, not at dinner), keep in air-con overnight, and the sunflowers should look fresh through 5-7 days. Sunflower pollen is staining — keep the bouquet away from the academic gown when not photographing.
